I’m Not Who You Think I’m Not #23: I’m Not Who You Think I’m Not meets Speisekino
O Céu de Suely (Love for Sale) by Karïm Ainouz, 2006

In O Céu de Suely (Love for Sale), director Karïm Ainouz again focuses on an outsider, after his debut film, Madame Satã, which dealt with a Rio de Janeiro transvestite in the 1930’s.

In O Céu de Suely (Love for Sale), Hermila returns to her village in northeastern Brazil with her newborn son, anxiously awaiting the arrival of her husband. Time passes slowly and the wait becomes an even heavier burden as she begins to realize that she's been abandoned. Her distress increases as she renews a relationship with an old boyfriend before deciding that she doesn't want to relive the past. Determined to raise enough money to escape her stifling hometown, she comes up with an unlikely prize to raffle off herself for one night of pleasure. Hermila adopts the name Suely, an act that distances her from her family and her past and signals the beginning of her journey toward new, open horizons.

ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics’ regular Speisekino format combines films and food around a particular topic. Sometimes the relation is obvious, and food from the region where the film is set is served. Sometimes the link between the two is more subtle, when for example the film is accompanied by a dish that also appears in the plot. Throughout its running time, the 10th Berlin Biennale collaborates with ZK/U for I’m Not Who You Think I’m Not meets Speisekino and invites various hosts to select and present food and footage around aspects of the 10th Berlin Biennale.
