Preparatory Notes for a Chicago Comedy

Scene play by Goshka Macuga in collaboration with Dieter Roelstraete

Preparatory Notes for a Chicago Comedy reflects on the contemporary art scene today and draws on Aby Warburg' s play Hamburg Conversations on Art: Hamburg Comedy (1896), which chronicles the struggle between an art scene' s conservative and progressive factions at the turn of the nineteenth century. It is performed by Sabina Donnelly, Francisco Sanchez Martinez, Javier Sanchez Martinez, Burkhart Seidemann, Magy da Silva, and Joey Zimmermann, with choreography the artist developed with Brygida Ochaim. Stage design produced by Stuart Hall, Zoe Parsons, and Emma Troubridge.

In cooperation with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago as part of Goshka Macuga' s 2013 Audience Engagement Residency. Lead support for the residency was provided by Helen and Sam Zell. Additional generous support was provided by Sandra and Jack Guthman, and David Herro and Jay Franke.
