Parade

Premiere screening Shahryar Nashat

Parade by visual artist Shahryar Nashat is a cinematic adaption from choreography by Adam Linder, which reinterprets a 1917 ballet by Jean Cocteau. This repeated adaption is based on the publicity “parade” of three variety performers in front of the theater; in order to survive, the artists have to constantly and successfully promote themselves. Nashat leverages the cameras agency so that it is on par with the virtuosity of the three performers. By means of frame, editing, and sound, he transforms the resonance of live choreography into an original cinematic occasion.

The film premieres on the occasion of Shahryar Nashat’s participation in the 8th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, in collaboration with the Institut français Berlin.
