Make Me Stop Smoking—a presentation of ideas under study

Performance by Rabih Mroué

What happens when a lost landscape is re-appropriated through its archived representation? In his performance Make Me Stop Smoking, Rabih Mroué reconstructs Lebanon’s radical, heterogeneous landscape, destroyed by crises and wars. With the aid of countless anonymous and personal documents, videos, photos, newspaper clippings, and eyewitness reports, he pieces together a complex system of meandering narrations. In so doing, he both questions the veracity and cogency of the archive documents and the validity of the reconstruction of "reality."

Rabih Mroué, born 1967 in Beirut is an actor, director, and playwright and a contributing editor to TDR (The Drama Review). He has been putting on his own plays, performances, and videos since 1990.
