Trembling Bodies

Performance by Artur Żmijewski

"You can declare: a work that shows the correct political tendency need show no other quality. You can also declare: a work that exhibits the correct tendency must of necessity have every other quality." (Walter Benjamin).

In most of his works, Artur Żmijewski uses the same efficient method: he devises a scenario, sets up a situation, and introduces a group of persons into it to see how they react, how they behave, and how they cope. In the little laboratories set up by the artist, new, temporary rules of behavior emerge. He has said: "There is no plan, no script—I never know where the trip will end." After the performance, there will be a discussion with Artur Żmijewski and Slawomir Sierakowski, editor in chief of Krytyka Polityczna (Political Critique), an influential magazine of the new Polish left.

This event is organized in collaboration with Sebastian Cichocki, following his term as director of Galeria Kronika in Bytom, Poland. A 5th Berlin Biennale and Galeria Kronika collaboration.
