17.5.2008 | Unité d’Habitation, Berlin

On the displays of light, inside and outside—there might be no victory over the sun. Unité d’Habitation (Type Berlin)

A mechanical ballet with light reflections by Susanne M. Winterling

"Architecture is the learned game, correct and magnificent, of forms assembled in the light," said Le Corbusier, briefly after Malevich sought with his futuristic opera to achieve a victory over the sun, which for him symbolized the triumph of rationality. The foyer of Le Corbusier’s Berlin Unité d’Habitation, which has a special and unusual light situation, is the starting point of a performance by Susanne M. Winterling that explores the individual. It shows how the human being (for example, a teenage girl) copes with and can position herself in the world. Winterling’s new film installation is presented in the cloakrooms of the Neue Nationalgalerie as part of the 5th Berlin Biennale.
