Music from the Ether

Performance by Dorit Chrysler

"Imagine if Marianne Faithfull and Nikola Tesla had a love child, with Jane Birkin as the nanny and Björk as the wayward Girl Scout leader!"

So Ann Magnuson from Paper Magazine described Dorit Chrysler, founder of the New York Theremin Society, and one of only a few performers in the world to have mastered the theremin, an electronic instrument that is played by moving one’s hand near to its antennae without actually touching them. In merging her explorative technique on the heremin with her unique vocals and compositions, Chrysler lighthandedly creates a strange, new, and endearing pop music of the future.
