Crash Pad c/o KW Institute for Contemporary Art

Auguststraße 69, 10117 Berlin

Event venue of the 8th Berlin Biennale

Crash Pad by Andreas Angelidakis was a multipurpose room with a library located
in the front building of KW Institute for Contemporary Art, which drew upon the idea of the nineteenth-century salon as
a setting for cultural and political conversations. The space was a site of encounter and exchange where both the artists participating in the 8th Berlin Biennale and invited guests hosted events ranging from informal gatherings to discussions, music sessions, and presentations. The room
was framed by an arrangement of ancient and folkloric rugs handmade in the Greek countryside, displaying a transitional iconography from Ottoman to European traditions, together with a set of columns. The space, which was inaugurated in January 2014, had hosted events in the lead up to the opening of the 8th Berlin Biennale and continued to function as a key site for gathering and discussion for the duration of the exhibition.
